Our Story
Over the past 10 years, I’ve made documentary films, learning about people’s lives around the world—from monks to opera singers, pole dancers to global leaders.
During this time, I honed the art of asking the right questions, helping people feel comfortable enough to share their life stories.
After filming, I always felt a rush of joy, gratitude, and connection, having glimpsed another’s life. Hearing about their struggles and triumphs left me feeling more connected to their humanity, and in a way, more understood myself.
Years later, I realized I could create that same feeling by connecting deeply with friends, family, and even strangers—just without the camera, but still with the same questions.
It felt like a no-brainer to gather my favourite questions into a pack, for you to use with your friends, family, partners, or someone new.
There’s something special about connecting more deeply with others. I hope this card game helps bring more of that feeling into your life and the lives of those you love.
Best,
Kiran
How It Began
-
Chapter 1
I spent the first 15-16 months, learning about what was out there, having coffee dates with facilitators, psychologists, event creators, to learn about their experience with connecting people & the conversations and questions that facilitate meaningful interactions.
-
Chapter 2
Zandy Karasulas and I created a 7-bullet point rubric for each question, and spent collectively over Zoom, 5-7 sessions, with some sessions lasting 5 hours, as we played each question, answered it for ourselves, and took our best guess at how it would land in others.
-
Chapter 3
I ran 5 events, in what I called the Taster Tour, where 68 people at 5 different venues, came together and played the game as it was. The events were a week a part and the learnings from each one was carried through to the next one. Each player had to rate each question they played out of 5, and explain why. At the first session, we had a couple of 2/5 stars, and by the end of the 5 events, all questions were at a 4/5 or 5/5.
-
Chapter 4
After that, Zandy and I collated all the 204 feedback froms and put together our final 50 questions, to which we then sent to anyone who wanted to try it (online). We sent it to 88 people via Google Photos, and what we found, was less feedback-giving, and more stories of how the questions brought them closer to those nearest.
